If you read my story, then you know I discovered my lost spiritual sisters. That’s one of the reasons why I’m big on following the liturgical calendar. I think all Christian women need to know about their heritage, because knowing the stories of your ancestors can help you draw strength from them. Above you can find a link to Universalis, an excellent resource for accessing not just the calendar, but the services for the Liturgy of the Hours.1
The Season of the
Church Year
- We are currently in the season of Ordinary Time.
- This season begins after Pentecost and lasts until Advent. Some denoninations break it up into two periods: the Season of Pentecost (until the penultimate week in August) and then the season of Kingdomtide.
- During this time, we focus on our walk with Jesus. As we move into autumn, we begin focusing outward on sharing the Good News of His coming kingdom with the world.
- The color for Ordinary Time is primarily green, which symbolizes new life and growth. However, since the season is so long, other colors may be used for variety. (The picture to the right was taken in October, hence the teal cloth draped on it.)

A series of prayers that are said throughout the day. They begin in the early morning and continue until late at night when you go to bed. The practice has been handed down from the ancient church.
