My name is Charli Underwood, the “Bible Thought Daughter,” and I’d like to welcome you to my website. I’m so glad you’re here! Let me tell you what I do here.
First and foremost, I will use this site to share my thoughts about the Bible. Now, if you read my story, then you’ll know I’m not the perfect girl who stayed in church all her life. When I was still a child, I always had questions that I felt like I had to stifle. When I grew up, I ran away from God. Although I came back, feeling like an outsider has given me a different perspective. I’m not afraid to question what I was always taught. Therefore, you won’t find the same-old, same-old Bible lessons from Sunday School here. As I like to say, you’d better lift your feet off the floor, because I’m not afraid to step on some toes!
Second, my desire is to foster a community of Christ-followers who discuss things without hatred or bitterness. There’s plenty of people out there who call themselves a Christian, but who just love to pile on somebody they don’t agree with as if they were playing football! I will not tolerate that kind of behavior. We are here to listen and learn, not win arguments. Remember the words of St. Paul:
“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, [and] patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so [must] you [do] also. In addition to all these things [put on] love, which is the perfect bond of unity” (Colossians 3:12-14; cf. 2 Peter 1:5-7).
At the top of this page, you will see one of my favorite stained glass windows: the Pilgrimage Window from York Minster Cathedral.
I love this window because it represents how I feel about the Christian walk. You must be willing to give up your comfortable position, engage with your fellow pilgrims from around the world, and ultimately, humble yourself before a holy God. I hope that, like me, you will consider our time together as a pilgrimage, where we help each other grow towards God.
